Just received my review copy and cooking from it tonight! Don’t much like the cover pic of a dirty spoon & it’s certainly not simple “family” recipes, but I can still taste the first time I ate this gifted chef’s food so many years ago in the Cross!
Zucchini Slice from his new book Salt Grill. In & out of the pan –but which??? Good tasting dish but careless book editing. Barely fits in the specified loaf pan & no word about unmolding. It’s easier to slice when slightly cooled but recipe says “serve hot or cold.” Actually, it doesn’t even say to slice in directions, despite its title. No volume measurement for the flour, and “1 onion” gives no idea about size: sm, med or lg? From Murdoch Books, one of Australia’s leading publishers I expect much more.
Brussels sprouts with bacon & rosemary for lunch today.
Good taste but careless editing: how much is 8 French shallots when they range from mini to jumbo? Ditto 6 rosemary sprigs — which seems excessive in any case.
Rum raisin & chocolate bread & butter pudding.
Ten eggs, 2 cups cream, 2 cups milk, vanilla pods, 6 (or was it 8?) croissants — crescent roll sizes vary enormously — so a weight would have been a good guide here. Expensive comfort food!
