THAILAND: We’ve long been fans of Supanniga resort in provincial Khon Kaen, and especially its rarefied cookery stressing the best in local ingredients. Now it’s Bangkok’s turn to learn what all the fuss is about. Here at Supanniga Eating Room on trendy Thong Lor (Sikhumvit soi 55) owner Thanaruek Laoraowirodge has achieved what other places aspire to.
More casual than prestigious nahm and Bo.Lan, but also easier on the pocketbook. A bit like Soul Food Manahakan further down Thong Lor. But then, there’s no such thing as competition when you’re good.
Drinks: Great cocktail list, and as everyone knows, sugary shaken spirits make a delicious foil to chilli-hot Thai food. Must try is their Issan Martini, infused with Stick Rice.
Well worth a detour, for this menu features touches of Isan, and further south to Trat on the Cambodian border, from where his grandmother hails. Not to mention the country’s best fish sauce.
